TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The magnitude 3.1 earthquake that hit several regions in South Bandung and Garut this morning at 07:52 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) was felt by residents from Majalaya up to Kamojong in Garut.

“The earthquake's epicenter came from the Garsela or the South Garut cesarean complex,” said Daryono, the head of the earthquake information and tsunami early warning of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) today.

According to BMKG, the epicenter’s coordinates were at 7.19 south latitude-107.79 east longitude, just 19 kilometers southeast of Bandung Regency in West Java. The hypocenter of the quake was at the depth of four kilometers.

Based on its depth and source, the earthquake is classified as a shallow earthquake caused by the region’s local cesarean. Daryono revealed that the South Garut Cesarean system extended to the region’s southwest and northeast areas.

“It is about 42 kilometers in a straight line,” said Daryono regarding the cesarean.
