TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Grab Indonesia has permanently terminated its partnership with one of its motorcycle driver (ojek) that was caught on video verbally and physically assaulting a pedestrian walking on a sidewalk in Jatiwaringin, East Jakarta on Monday night, August 6.

Grab Indonesia Marketing Director Mediko Azwar said that the female ojek driver had violated company rules by physically assaulting another person.

“Any type of violence or crime will not be tolerated,” said Mediko in a written statement on Tuesday night, August 7.

A 2 minute video that was uploaded on Youtube, which eventually went viral, showed a male pedestrian identified as Alif confronting a female Grab Bike ojek driver that had been driving on a sidewalk in Jatiwaringin - which is not a rare sight to see in Jakarta streets – that ended with the female driver assaulting Alif following their argument.

According to Mediko, Grab Indonesia has investigated the incident and saw that the driver in the video had physically assaulted another person as news reports suggested. Mediko regrets that the incident took place and reminded others to only provide customers with its utmost service, obey the law, and respect pedestrians.
