TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The construction of Tanah Abang Skybridge, Central Jakarta, which connecting Block G of Tanah Abang Market and railway station, would start today, August 2. However, the project was lack of dissemination efforts to the traders and community in the area.

The city-owned property developer PD Pembangunan Sarana Jaya planning unit manager, Slamet Riyanto, said the dissemination efforts on the skybridge project would commence on Friday, August 3, in line with the groundbreaking.

“We will install the banner on August 3, and we ask help from the city administration to disseminate the project,” he said, as quoted from Tempo Newspaper, Thursday, August 2.

The Central Jakarta mayor and related agencies would conduct the dissemination efforts. “We have shared the task. We (as the developer) will focus on the construction,” Slamet said.

Based on Tempo observation, no banner or billboard displayed in Jl. Jatibaru Raya to publicize the skybridge construction. Many street vendors (PKL) were seen doing their businesses as usual on the sidewalks. Some traders claimed they did not know that the construction would begin today.

Slamet said the street vendors would not be relocated due to lack of land availability. Instead, they were urged to move aside to minimalize the risk of the work accident.

The construction would begin by fencing the project site and installing the pole foundation. The installment of its structure would be done at night which was 80 percent of it was ready to be attached.

The project would also proceed during daylight in a bid to meet the target deadline, October 2018. However, he added, the project would be divided into four zones, around the Block G market and the area towards Jl. Jatibaru Raya.

Meanwhile, PDIP faction head at Jakarta Legislative Council Gembong Warsono opined that the construction project of Tanah Abang Skybridge might harm people under it. He considered it as a hasty project since the city administration failed to find a temporary place or land for the street vendors.
