TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) has asserted it will not extend the registration period for the legislative candidate of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) despite possible issues besetting political parties that register their candidates in the last days.
“We have disseminated information [on the registration period] massively for a long time, even since June 4 we have called on the legislative candidates or parties to submit their data to the information system (Silon),” said KPU Commissioner Ilham Saputra at his office, Jakarta, Friday, July 13.
According to Ilham, it was impossile for the KPU to extend the registration period because it had long shared the information related to the requirements of the candidates.

The election process might be hampered if the registration period extended, he said. “We have calculated and considered all possibilities until we decided the registration period on July 4-17,” he explained.
Until the tenth day of the registration period, no party has registered their legislative candidates with the KPU. Ilham called on the parties to not register in the last days of the period. “Because we will verify the documents which they can revise later,” Ilham added.
