TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti officially inaugurated an organization dubbed Pandu Laut Nusantara in a bid to embrace all sea communities who have vital roles in preserving Indonesian sea.
“71 percent of Indonesian territory is sea, it’s unfortunate if our wealth in the sea is not secured. Because since our childhood, we are taught [Indonesia] as an agricultural country, not a maritime nation,” said Minister Susi in a release issued by the ministry at Jakarta, Wednesday, July 11.
Susi Pudjiastuti established Pandu Laut Nusantara at the ministry’s Ballroom in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 10. The inauguration ceremony was taken place during the gathering meeting of 200 representatives of sea communities.
All members of Pandu Laut Nusantara will be synergized with each other and strived to save the sea. They are expected to collaborate with local people and related stakeholders in national fisheries affairs.
Pandu Laut Nusantara, Susi further said, will be a place for communities together with the government preserving the sea. She explained the idea to establish the organization was inspired by sea communities that strived for nature preservation.
“This will bring together various communities, and we will conduct many actions to contribute in preserving Indonesian sea,” Minister Susi Pudjiatuti explained regarding the newly founded organization Pandu Laut Nusantara.
