TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia stated that there have been no reports on counterfeit bills in this year’s Eid Al-Fitr. Executive Director of Money Management Suhaedi, said that the trend of counterfeit bill distribution tends to decline this year.
"Based on our supervision, the situation is good. During this year's Eid Al-Fitr period, there's no discoveries or report related to counterfeit bills," Suhaedi said.
Suhaedi added that the declining number of counterfeit bills has a lot to do with the fact that the people now are being more careful in noticing fake bills. Moreover, the counterfeit bill reporting system has much improved and that BI and the police can immediately handle the counterfeit bill cases.
Based on BI records, currently, the counterfeit bill ratio has dropped to 1:3 in 2018, meaning that there are three counterfeit bills in every 1 million bills. The number was a significant drop from the previous 1:9 ratio in 2017.
Suhaedi added that most counterfeited bills are the IDR 50,000 and IDR 100.000 bills. As for the distribution area, the counterfeit bills are generally found in Java.
