TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In light of Eid Al-Fitr celebration, House of Representatives Speaker Bambang Soesatyo, said that the people should maintain a conducive political condition.
"As the speaker of the House, I’d like to encourage the people to maintain a conducive political condition and do not pay attention to provocative statements," said Bambang.
Bambang said that democracy should be the final decision and added that Indonesia's current condition is very conducive. Bambang asserted that the current condition is the result of Indonesia's recent appointment as the United Nations Security Council non-permanent member for 2019-2020, the upcoming simultaneous regional election scheduled to take place at end of June 2018.
In relation to the presidential election scheduled to take place in 2019, Bambang said that the mechanism is clear and will be conducted through a direct election. Therefore, the Functional Group Party politician is certain that the people will maintain the country's condition to remain conducive.
Bambang added that with the support of the National Army, the Police, and the House of Representatives, the government can make sure that the democratic practices in Indonesia can continue to run well.
"[Democracy] should not be tarnished with anarchist action. Because such political practice is not the culture of Indonesians," Bambang stated.
