TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shook hands for the first time in a historical moment today in Singapore. The simple hand shake is a symbolism of an unusual diplomacy where both men spent the past year going back and forth exchanging threats and warnings regarding North Korea’s nuclear program.
Both Trump and Kim shook each other’s hand in front of lines of North Korean and United States flags, which looks to have opened a new chapter for both countries’ relationship.
Based on Tempo’s observation in Singapore, the majority of news prints there were filled with news coverage of the meeting, such as Singapore-based Strait Times that have intensively reported every step of the meeting.
A similar thing was practiced by TV station Channel NewsAsia, which was granted limited access to be able to enter further inside the location where both country leaders are meeting, and will provide a continuous coverage of the meeting between the Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.
One day before the meeting took place, Tempo found that the coverage of this event has caused every people in Singapore to be aware with meeting. When asked, some were proud of the fact that Singapore was chosen as the place to hold such meeting and the majority of others could care less about the meeting.
