TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After leaving Golkar Party to join Berkarya Party, Siti Hediati Soeharto better known as Titiek Soeharto was immediately granted a critical position at the political party initiated by her own brother, Tommy Soeharto. Titiek will fill the position as advisory council chairman at Berkarya Party.
“Titiek will take on an important position, which is really strategic as the chairman of the advisory council,” said Priyo Budi Santoso, Berkarya Party’s secretary on June 11. However, Titiek will also take the position as a coordinator of the party’s electoral commands.
Titiek Soeharto declared her decision to leave Golkar Party during her visit to her late father Soeharto's hometown at Kemusuk, Yogyakarta on Monday, June 11. She said that she had several reasons to leave the political party that her father had initiated.
One of the reasons was that Golkar party is already saturated with greatly reliable politicians and that Golkar does not need her service. “Golkar does not need me, but I am very much needed in Berkarya Party,” said Titiek.
A former acquaintance at Golkar Party, Deputy Chairman Coordinator Bambang Soesatyo regretted the step that Titiek Soeharto decided to take, “We cannot place a blind eye to the fact that Soeharto’s grass root has affected Golkar’s electability,” said Bambang who hoped that Titiek would be more of a use at Berkarya Party.
