BI Estimates June Inflation at 0.22%

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo said that based on a survey in the first week of June 2018, indicators showed that prices were under control. Perry said that until the first week of June, the monthly inflation rate was 0.22 percent.


"June's inflation is 0.22 percent month-on-month, and the year-to-date inflation rate is 1.53 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate is 2.75%," Perry told a press conference on Friday, June 8.


According to Perry, those figures show that prices of goodss, especially staple goods, are under control with a tendency to decline or deflate. He said that staple goods that experienced deflation included garlic, cooking oil, chili peppers, and shrimps.

Meanwhile, prices that contributed to this months inflation were of the transportation sector, especially public transportation for Eid homecoming, such as airfares. He said that this price hike was only seasonal and brief.


Perry added market confidence toward Indonesia had grown. According to BI's data, he said, the capital flows to Indonesia from May 24 to June 6 this year amounted to Rp13 trillion.
