TEMPO.CO, Gorontalo - Three whale sharks (Rhyncodon typus) were seen swimming in water of Botubarani village, Kabila Bone district, Bone Bolango of Gorontalo Province on Tuesday, May 22.
One of the locals, Teti said since morning the three whale sharks have started to be seen in the beach that is close to the local’s settlement. “Even previously, two days ago, four sharks were seen being around,” she said.
She hoped more whale shark would come and the place will be crowded with visitors. “To watch the whale shark up close, the visitor simply could buy food such as shrimp’s head for Rp10,000 and rent a boat at around Rp15,000 per person,” Teti explained.
The other local, Arfan Napu, said since the beginning of May, whale sharks started to be seen even just one. He also hoped it could attract tourist to come and watch.
“This tourism place is getting crowded again, and it could be one of the income source for local by boat and diving tools renting, as well as parking,” he added.
Bone Bolango Regent, Hamim Pou, said the existence of the whale sharks in Botubarani’s water could improve their economy. He hoped the sea mammal could stay longer and last in Botubarani’s beach.
