TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) will carry out several steps to ensure that voters who do not have electronic identity cards (e-KTP), e-KTP reference letter, and residence documents can still have the rights to vote in the simultaneous 2018 regional election.

"Basically [we'll help] voters who are not included in the permanent voters' list," said KPU commissioner Viryan at the KPU office on Friday, April 20, 2018.

Viryan explained that district/city KPUs will send voters data to Provincial KPU to protect the rights of people to cast a vote. Later, the Central KPU will enter the data using a special feature and clarify it with the region official. If the data is proven to be right, the people will be able to vote using a reference letter.

"We are fully concerned about making sure that the people have a right to vote," said Viryan.

As of April 20, 2018, the KPU has registered 125 million voters. Earlier, 6.7 million of 152.9 million voters that were listed on the provincial voters' list (DPS) have yet to obtain e-KTP document as the requirement to cast a vote in the regional election.
