TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prosperity and Justice Party (PKS) President Sohibul Iman, said that he had heard about President Jokowi asking Prabowo Subianto, to be his running mate in the 2019 election.

"Prabowo confirmed with Jokowi's representative Pak Luhut [Binsar Pandjaitan] that such move would be impossible to take," said Sohibul at Jakarta City Hall on Sunday, April 15, 2018.

According to Sohibul Iman, in the meeting with Luhut, Prabowo explained the reason why such move was impossible. Sohibul quoted what Prabowo had said to Luhut; "Don't you pity me? I have struggled so far to reach this position to only become Pak Jokowi's running-mate," Sohibul recited.

Reports suggested that Prabowo and Luhut met at a restaurant in the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Jakarta on Friday, April 6, 2018.

Sohibul asserted that Jokowi's intention to persuade Prabowo is sign that the Gerindra Chairman is still considered as a strong contender for the presidency.

"If Prabowo is truly an easy opponent for Jokowi, then why did the President attempted to persuade Prabowo into becoming his running mate?" said the PKS President.
