TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some 3,000 athletes participated in the BORR 10K marathon or Bogor running Race held in the Jalan Lingkar Luar Bogor (BORR) on Sunday.

The first ever marathon in a toll road was organized by PT WIKA And PT Marga Sarana Jabar manning the BORR toll road management, and supported by the Bogor municipality administration as well as the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.

The athletes taking part in the race included those from Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) region, Bandung, Kenya and the United Kingdom.

Candidates of Bogor mayors, Bima Sugiarto, and Achmad Ru'yat, also joined the race.

Of the participants, some 1,700 athletes joined the 10 kilometer race, and around 1,300 others competed in the five kilometer race, Syarifah Ariana of the organizing committee said.

The marathon started at 5 a.m. local time and the participants reached the finish line within 30 minutes to 61 minutes.

PT Marga Sarana Jabar (MSJ) President Director Atmodjo said the marathon race was part of a series of activities held prior to the inauguration of the BORR section IIB scheduled for mid April.

The race was also organized to support the designation of Bogor City as a city for runners.
