TEMPO.CO, Beijing - Huawei has worked hard to be advance in camera innovation but does not forget about the screen innovation.

The company has patented a foldable smartphone that opens and closes like a book, as reported by GSM Arena, March 29.

The patent was submitted to WIPO on September 19 last year and published on March 29. The mechanism is similar to Microsoft Surface Book, but it seems to leave a much smaller gap.

The screen is tablet-sized when fully open. The patent did not discuss on how the device would be used when it is closed. There are several ways to check for notifications, from the LED to the extra screen.

Techradar quoted the Huawei CEO Richard Yu saying the company did not want any gaps between the two screens such as the design of ZTE Axon M.

Huawei's new patent seems to solve the problem with a bending screen, but it is only on paper. There have been no signs of Huawei's foldable hardware prototype.

Another problem may be the durability of the technology. According to Techradar, there is no such display technology that can bear so many folds.

Samsung, Lenovo, Sony, LG, Apple and now Huawei, all seem to be sketching plans for the smartphones that can really be folded. It is only a matter of time for one of them to claim the first title in the world.
