TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said she had her own way of campaigning for the issue of environmental awareness.

Susi has banned her employees from consuming mineral water in plastic bottles in the office, especially during the ministry’s events.

“I banned them completely, I fine anyone who brings any bottled mineral water,” she said in symposium at the ministry today.

She further explained there had been zero reports of any violations since the policy took effect.

Based on Tempo’s observation, the ministry’s employees have all brought their own water bottles from home. “Yes, we were barred from bringing any plastic-bottled mineral water. I heard Susi Air adopted that policy, too,” said one of the ministry’s employees.

Susi Air is one of the many domestic airlines owned by the minister.

Susi Pudjiastuti said she kept on finding numerous plastic wastes whenever she was paddling at several places throughout Indonesia. This is also the reason why she argues that the government will have to issue a regulation banning the production of plastic-based products.
