TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rally held by thousands of online motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers from GoJek and Grab in front of the State Palace today demanded two things to be fixed, namely the legal umbrella and tariff equation.

“The first demand is that online motorcycle drivers must have a legal umbrella. Secondly, we also demand to rationalize the tariff and raise it to Rp4,000 per kilometer,” said M. Rahman T, Chairman of the Indonesian Online Drivers` Community Forum today, March 27.

According to Rahman, the current tariff set by online ride-hailing providers such as GoJek and Grab are considered to be too low, which is Rp2,000 per kilometer.

That is not included the 20 percent that the drivers must pay back to the company. This means that the net income the drivers receive per kilometer is Rp1,600.

“We demand no more minimum tariffs of Rp2,000 per kilometer or anything below it. That number is inhumane,” said M. Rahman.

Rahman was chosen to represent thousands of online ojek drivers from Go-Jek and Grab in the meeting with President Joko Widodo, who was accompanied by Presidential Staff Moeldoko and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi.
