At Harmony Day Australia, Angklung Group Plays Amazing Grace

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Community enlivened the celebration of Harmony Day in Australia with angklung performance. Harmony Day was held by the Randwick City Administration, Australia, at The Spot Festival in Randwick.
Indonesian Community enlivened the festival with angklung music performance while promoting angklung music to the local community. They played some song compositions, from traditional to international songs. The Amazing Grace song was the one that they played.
The angklung music performance is a collaboration between the Consulate General (KJRI) of Sydney and the Indonesian community in Sydney, the angklung music group from the Indonesian Presbyterian Church in Randwick.
Consul Zani Murnia of the KJRI who attended the celebration of Harmony Day gave a speech and explained the angklung music to visitors who packed the Harmony Stage. A total of 24 people played angklung about 20 minutes.
"On behalf of the Indonesian government, I express my appreciation for this opportunity to show Indonesian traditions and culture in a big multicultural festival," said Zani Murnia, as conveyed in a press statement from the KJRI on Tuesday, March 13.
The Spot Festival is the largest festival of Randwick City Council visited by about 20 thousand people a day. The Indonesian angklung performance is one of four cultural performances at Harmony Stage.
"Our community is endowed with over 100 different ethnicities," said Randwick Mayor Lindsay Shirley. According to her, The Spot Festival offers a great opportunity for everyone to come and celebrate Australia's cultural diversity, inclusiveness, respect, and belonging through culinary and music.
