TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani admits that she is proud of the fact that a mural art piece made by Indonesian artists will be exhibited in the upcoming World Bank-International Monetary Fund annual spring meeting in Washington DC.

“The art piece is our shared pride and also shows another side of Indonesia to the world. Not just economy, geography, but also its people and their rich sense of art,” said Sri Mulyani during the opening of the mural exhibition held at Jusuf Anwar building, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 13.

The art piece entitled “the connectivity wall” will be installed in a hallway connecting the World Bank main atrium to the IMF building. “I am personally very well aware of the location from the time I worked at the World Bank. It’s strategic and people always pass by,” said Sri Mulyani.

Exhibition curator Amir Sidharta explained that the mural painting is a product of a collaborative art piece between eight young Indonesian artists from various sociocultural backgrounds. They are Marishka Soekarna, Yudi Andhika, Miko, Rizky Aditya Nugroho, Oldy Jurakli, Adi Dharma, Muchlis Fahri, dan A.A.G. Airlangga.

“The work of art shows the importance of diversity, cooperation, communication, and tolerance in the formation and development of a peace-loving society,” said Amir.

The art piece that will be exhibited in the World Bank headquarters was made in less than 12 hours at school in Cilandak, South Jakarta on Monday, March 4.
