UIN Rector Revokes Burka Prohibition On Campus

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Rector of State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Yudian Wahyudi mentioned has revoked the prohibition of wearing burka (face veil) for the students at the campus.
“It has been revoked, the information is from the head of study, dean and the rector himself," said one student of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga who asked not to be named, SA, on Saturday, March 10.
The campus has previously issued a letter containing a coaching for the burka-wearing students. It was issued on 20th of February.

But on Saturday, March 10, a letter containing the revoke of the coaching has circulated. The letter numbered B-1679/Un.02/R/AK.00.3/03/2018 dated March 10. It was signed by Yudian, addressed to the Postgraduate Director, Dean of the Faculty, and the Head of the Local Unit/Institution.
The revoke was welcomed by UIN Sunan students. SA who is a student of the Faculty of Da’wah and Communications revealed that she and her burka-wearing friends welcomed the letter with gratitude and happiness.
“Finally the coaching is revoked. Automatically, the use of the burka in UIN Sunan Kalijaga is allowed,” SA said.
Meanwhile, until Sunday, March 11, Yudian cannot be contacted to confirm.
The revocation letter mentioned the reason based on the results of the University Coordination Meeting (RKU) on March 10. “It (burka ban) is revoked in order to maintain a conducive academic condition," Yudian wrote in the letter.
