TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara said that he would not reopen the access to Tumblr before the microblogging site cleans its contents from pornographic contents.
“We have warned them to clean it up but they have yet to do it, so we had to block the website. It will be reopened if they have complied [with our request]. There is no way will I let them pollute Indonesia’s internet,” said Rudiantara at his office on Wednesday, March 7.
The ministry had to block the sites to protect society from the dangers of pornography, said Minister Rudiantara.

The Ministry’s General Director of Application and Informatics Semuel Pangarepan said that Tumblr representatives have yet responded to the ministry’s decision in blocking its website.
According to Semuel, Tumblr would provide an official response if it sees Indonesia as one of their lucrative markets. “An email response would suffice, no need to travel to Indonesia,” he added.
Earlier, the Ministry received 8,575 reports throughout January regarding negative contents on the internet. As many as 8,166 of them were the reports of pornographic contents, including the negative contents in Tumblr.
