TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said the government plans for the terrorist convict Abu Bakar Baasyir to be a house arrest or transferred to a penitentiary in Solo.
Responding to the plan, Baasyir’s lawyer Guntur Fattahillah claimed to have requested confirmation of his client. "I have confirmed to Ustadh Abu. And he said, 'I don't want to be transferred to Solo but I agree if I become a house arrest'," he said Thursday, March 2.
Guntur Said transferring Baasyir to Solo penitentiary will not take any different to staying at a number of penitentiaries he had lived in.

Guntur also asserted that his client will not submit a clemency request to President Joko Widodo because Baasyir thought that he was not guilty. If he submits a clemency, Baasyir admits being guilty.
Baasyir's lawyer said a clemency submission was never filed until today. He had only proposed for Baasyir to be a house arrest considering that his client's age has reached 80 years. The request was submitted during the Presidency of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono but there was no response. Moreover, Abu Bakar Baasyir’s condition is currently declining.
The former chairman of the Indonesian Mujahidin Council was diagnosed with a bilateral chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) or a sustained vein abnormality. He was referred to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta.
