TEMPO.CO, Lampung - Liwa, the capital of West Lampung district is famous for its robusta coffee and civet coffee. In the middle of its cool air, of course, a cup of coffee should have a ‘friend’ that makes the atmosphere cooler, a variety of cakes for example.

In the cake shops of this quiet town, you can find some typical cakes, such as cuchuk, tat, and kumbang luyang. Let's try it.

1. Buak Tat

One of the typical indigenous Lampung cakes becomes a mandatory cake in a traditional ceremony. Buak means cake in the local language.

The shape is varied, from a large pan to the flowers form for their own consumption. There is also the fish-shaped one.

Because of different form, it has the special name. Like Buak tat iwa, is the name of a fish-shaped tat cake.

This cake made from wheat flour and milk contains pineapple jam. On the tongue, it felt crisp and sweet.

2. Cuchuk

This one is made of glutinous rice flour. It can be found also in some other areas in Indonesia, of course with a different name.

What is different in Liwa, is that there are three holes, while in most other areas it only has one. In other areas, it is known as ring cake or ali cake. Well, in Liwa it is called cuchuk or cucur.

3. Kumbang Luyang

This one can also be found in Sumatra and Java. Betawi people call it the rocking flower, so the Liwa people named it the kumbang luyang.

The dough is dilute and the shaped-flower iron mold. After the dough is dipped, then put it into the hot cooking oil.

Kumbang luyang cakes are available in savory or salty taste, as well as sweet. Please choose, suit your taste.
