Istana Denies Rumor of Jokowi Car Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State Palace Protocol, Press and Media Secretariat denied rumors that President Joko Widodo`s (Jokowi) car had an accident during a visit to West Sumatra.
According to the secretariat's deputy Bey Machmudin, the black minibus that had an accident on the West Sumatra Highway was not the car that was carrying the presidential entourage.
“The car that had an accident belongs to the West Sumatra Provincial Government. It had an accident at 16:30,” he said as quoted from the cabinet secretariat’s website, Friday, Feb. 9.

According to Bey, the accident happened at the Padang-Solok route at the Pintu Angin Arousuka area, Solok Regency. At the time of the accident, the president’s car was at Sawahlunto.
Rumors that the president’s car got into an accident went viral on social media, with video footages showing the car rolling over.
President Jokowi is in West Sumatra since Wednesday for a series of agendas. Today, he is scheduled to attend the National Press Day ceremony in Cimpago Lake, Padang City, and lead the ground-breaking ceremony of the Padang-Pekanbaru Toll Road Construction.
