Over 1,500 Tons of Trash Collected During Jakarta Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The flood that hit several areas in Jakarta not only inundated houses, but it also swept more than 1,000 tons of trash from the Ciliwung River.
Head of Jakarta’s Environment Agency Isnawa Adji said that his agency had collected 1,596 tons of trash. “Until Monday, we have collected 1,596 tons of trash,” he said Wednesday, February 7.
Isnawa explained that the trashes were collected from three locations, namely the West Flood Canal in Season City, Manggarai Floodgates, and the Kampung Melayu Bridge.

Kampung Melayu Bridge in East Jakarta was the place most saturated by trash. The agency cleaned up 1,504 tons of trash at that location alone, which is significantly higher than the other two locations.
Furthermore, Isnawa explained that the trash mostly consisted of tree logs. “Jakarta’s environment agency worked tirelessly to assure that the trashes swept by the flood are cleaned up,” he said.
The agency is also responsible to clean muds leftover by the flood and other damages from areas in Jakarta that are affected by the flood.
