TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Supreme Court has canceled the regulation of Jakarta Governor which was made during the leadership period of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok about the motorcycle ban through Jalan M.H. Thamrin and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. But the cancellation does not automatically revoke the rules that restrict the two-wheeled vehicle.

Metro Jaya Regional Police spokesman Commissioner Argo Yuwono said that the regulation on motorcycle restrictions on the two protocol roads was based on Governor Regulation No. 141 of 2015. As long as the regulation had not been revoked, the police were still ticketing the violator motorcyclists. "We are still waiting for the cancellation of governor regulation number 141 of 2015," said Argo at Metro Jaya Regional Police on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

According to Argo, the rules related to motorcycle ban have been through a number of studies. The goal is that the traffic on the protocol road to be better and organized. "If there is a government regulation there must be an academic study," he said.

With the Supreme Court decision to cancel the Governor Regulation, Argo said, the police will wait for the political move from the local government to revoke the regulation officially.

Ahok began to impose the motorcycle ban on Jalan M.H. Thamrin and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat in mid-December 2014. This rule is considered effective in controlling the traffic chaos in the street. The government even has planned to expand the prohibition area to Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said. But the plan did not work because the position of the governor was taken over by Anies Baswedan who won the DKI governor election.
