TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairwoman of the ruling party the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri has declared TB Hasanuddin and Anton Charliyan as candidates of governor and deputy governor to run in West Java gubernatorial election.

While declaring the nomination of the couple in PDIP headquarters in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta Selatan on Sunday (7/1), Megawati stated that her party supports a lot of candidates for regional leaders with a background not only in military but also as law enforcement officers.

"I ask them, aren’t you ashamed by the National Military? Why won’t you stand as a representative of the police? You have to fight for West Java," Megawati said in regards to the nomination of Police Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan.

TB Hasanuddin and Anton, both wearing West Java traditional costumes, made a ‘bro handshake’ in front of PDIP members.

Megawati considers them a perfect duo. She believes that Anton is the right partner for Hasanuddin since he has great educational background, a lot of achievements in the police force and a wide range of experiences as a leader.

"Anton received education in the U.S., France, Malaysia, and he had served as National Police spokesperson, South Sulawesi and West Java Police chief," Megawati applauded.
