TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani delivered the ministry's strategy for Government Securities (SBN) in 2018. The first thing to do, she said, is to build Indonesia's reputation.

The minister said that the world sees Indonesia as an emerging country. And thus, "Indonesia must position itself as a strong and credible emerging country," Sri said at the Finance Ministry building in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 2.

With a strong position, she continued, Indonesia can maintain a stable perception when sentiments are negative. Such perception can be obtained by showing good state budget amendments, solid revenues, productive state spending, increased purchasing power, and several other factors.

"People will then realize that Indonesia is a big economy with good foundations and positive policy direction," she asserted.

In terms of timing strategy, the Finance Ministry will take into account what is needed.

"We have a schedule. Domestically, [our economy] is reinforced by the issuance of domestic bonds," she said.

Sri Mulyani said that domestic investors are Indonesians. "So that is what we will strengthen in terms of domestic investments."
