TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II noted that the on-time performance (OTP) of Soekarno-Hatta Airport two days before Christmas was 57 percent.
“Meaning that there is 40 percent delayed flights,” Technical and Operational Director Djoko Mudjatmodjo said in Tangerang on Sunday, Dec. 24.
Djoko said that the delays were in category I i.e. delayed for 30-60 minutes. In the category, 271 flights were late and 142 flights were delayed.
There were 190,304 flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on December 23 with 5,534 additional flights.
Transportation Ministry Secretary-General Sugihardjo has called on airlines to reduce delays. OTP is one of the key performance indicators of airlines.
Moreover, delays will undermine public service. “We will conduct an evaluation and will do it quickly because public service should not be hampered,” he said. The government will identify the causes of the delays and recommend improvement if the problem is systemic.
To anticipate passenger congestion due to delays, Angkasa Pura II has established self-service check-in kiosks. Djoko said that passengers who do not bring luggage may check-in at the counters. “Self check-in [kiosks] are available at the earliest two hours before a flight,” he said.
He expects passengers not to enter check-in rooms two hours before the flight to reduce congestion at the airport.
