TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A lot of people suffer from phobias. They are afraid of specific things that cause them to experience trembling or sweating, among others.
Listed below are 4 of the most common phobias.
1. Heights
Phobia of heights (acrophobia) tops the list of the most common phobias suffered by people across the globe. At least 23 respondents say that they are afraid of heights. Meanwhile, 35 percent say that they are quite afraid of heights.
2. Snake and spiders
The second most common phobia is fear of snakes or (ophidiophobia) and fear of spiders (arachnophobia). The fear of venomous animals apparently can be acquired naturally, not only because of trauma or bad experience in interacting with them.
3. Public speaking
Even though it’s not as dangerous as other phobias, many people suffer fear of public speaking (glossophobia). Those suffering from this condition will experience a panic attack when speaking in public. A mild case of glossophobia can cause cold sweats and tremble, whereas in a severe case one can suffer from fainting due to fear.
4. Fear of confined places
Claustrophobia or extreme fear of confined places is also among the most common phobias. Some people say they have a fear of being in confined places, whereas in milder cases people say they are quite anxious about being in such a situation.
