TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that tropical cyclone Cempaka is currently developing near the southern coast of the Java Island.

Through their press release, BMKG Meteorology Deputy R. Mulyono Rahadi Prabowo said that the buildup of cyclone Cempaka over the waters of Central Java’s Southern side will cause weather pattern changes throughout its path.

The weather changes may cause Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java, to experience heavy rain.

Meanwhile, areas that may potentially experience similar rainstorms with wind speeds up to 30 knots are the Mentawai islands, Bengkulu, South Sumatera, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, the Java Sea, the northern part of the Sunda Strait, and Bali’s southern waters.

Cyclone Cempaka will potentially trigger 2.5 to 6-meter waves in the east Java’s southern waters, eastern Java sea, southern Sunda strait, southern Banten waters, up to west Java, the Indian Ocean in the west part of Bengkulu, up to the southern part of central Java.

BMKG official called for the public to stay alert considering that tropical cyclone Cempaka will affect Indonesia for the next two to three days.
