TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that he received a lot of suggestions about the possible replacement candidates of the National Armed Forces (TNI) Chief Gatot Nurmantyo who will retire in March 2018.

“There are names,” President Jokowi said in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara on November 23.

The President commented on journalists questions about General Gatot Nurmantyo’s retirement in the next few months. Jokowi said that he will follow the applicable replacement mechanism, including deliberations and approval of the House of Representatives (DPR).

“There is a mechanism in place. We will follow the mechanism at the DPR. Be patient,” he said. The TNI chief is traditionally a four-star general and former Chief of Staff.

The current Chief of Staff of the Air Force (KSAU) is Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto, the Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD) is General Mulyono and the Chief of Staff of the Navy (KSAL) Admiral Ade Supandi.

Many, however, has called on Jokowi to pick new TNI chief from the Air Force as part of the rotation policy.
