TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PSIS Semarang will face PSMS Medan in Liga 2 semifinals after holding PSPS Riau to a 1-1 draw yesterday at GBLA Stadium in Bandung.
The result puts PSIS in the runners-up position in the round of 8 of Liga 2 Group Y. PSIS have the same point as PSPS with 4. But the former had a superior goal difference.
PSPS opened the scoring in the 42nd minute through Wahyu Kristanto. PSIS equalized after Haudi Abdillah headed the ball into the net in the 70th minute following Taufik free-kick delivery.
In the 76th minute, PSPS played with 10 men after Victor Pae received a second yellow card. PSPS were struggling to win the match. The referee brandished another red card to PSPS player in the 90+1 minute.
The match ended with a controversy. In the second minute of injury time, PSPS players and officials chased down the referee over a penalty box incident.
As such, the quarterfinals have come to a close. Aside from PSIS vs PSMS Medan, the semifinals on November 25 will see Persebaya Surabaya take on Martapura FC.
