TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Setya Novanto’s lawyer Fredrich Yunadi said the Corruption Eradication Commission has unilaterally named his client as a detainee. However, Freidrich said that his team and Setya’s family have refused to acknowledge the status.
“There was an embarrassing moment between the KPK, [Setya’s] family, and me. During a negotiation related to a transfer to RSCM, the KPK suddenly issued a letter stating that Setya Novanto is now a detainee," Fredrich said in Jakarta on Friday, November 17, 2017.

Fredrich later questioned the decision as his client has not been probed after being named as a suspect in a graft case surrounding the electronic ID cards (e-KTP) procurement project. He also questioned the legal basis of the KPK’s move.
“Which law authorizes the KPK to detain a person, who’s in a bad health condition, without being probed?” he said.

Earlier on Friday, November 10, Setya was named as a suspect in the e-KTP graft case for the second time. On November 16, 2017, the Functional Group (Golkar) Party chairman was rushed to a hospital following an accident. When the KPK was about to pick Setya by force, his whereabouts were unknown.
Currently, Setya is being treated at Cipto Mangunkusomo Kencana Hospital. To this date, the hospital management has not yet issued a statement in relation to Setya’s condition.
