TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online marketplace Tokopedia is exploring the possibility of following Go-Jek`s step and becoming a government`s tax agent. However, Tokopedia has not made a decision on when that will happen.

Tokopedia chief of staff Melissa Siska Juminto said the company has the vision to help the government in many ways. One of them is being ready if they are appointed as a tax agent. "We can go there too in order to help the government in terms of transparency," she said in Jakarta, Thursday, November 9.

On Tuesday, November 7, Go-Jek CEO Nadiem Makarim met Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. According to the Tax Directorate General's director of IT and communication transformation Iwan Djuniardi, Nadiem asked for Go-Jek to become a tax application provider.

Iwan said that Minister Sri Mulyani responded positively to Nadiem's request. However, the ministry would have to conduct a study first. According to the government, there is nothing wrong with Go-Jek's request that goes against regulations.

If the government approves, then taxpayers can register their tax numbers and report their tax notices through Go-Jek's app.

Tokopedia has been known as an e-commerce company. The startup has an e-money called TokoCash which is currently unable to function. The account is suspended by Bank Indonesia (BI) due to the absence of the permit. The central bank is currently processing the permit for TokoCash that Tokopedia has applied for.
