Govt Demands Conventional, Online Taxis to Work Hand in Hand

TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi demanded conventional and online taxi and conventional taxis to collaborate by coordinating with governors and regional police.
"If online and conventional taxis can collaborate, it will create fair business and conducive atmosphere," Budi said in Pekanbaru on Saturday, Nov. 4, after disseminating Transportation Ministerial Decree No. PM 108/2017 as a replacement to PM 26/2017 on People Transportation by Non-retribution Public Motor Vehicles which serves as a regulation for special rental transportation.

Budi explained that the government has issued the regulation for online taxi business. He further stated that online taxi is an inevitable result of information technology.
"That is why online taxi needs to be regulated in order to create fairness with the conventional taxi," Budi said.
To implement the regulation that is of effect on November 1, the governor and regional police play a crucial role.
Riau Governor Arsyadjuliandi Rachman stated that the regulation has been long awaited to regulate the operation of online taxi . He agrees that collaboration between online taxi and conventional taxi needs to be done for the sake of fair business.
