TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has yet to decide whether he would reject reclamation project. He has called on Jakarta residents to wait and be patient as he only took office on Monday.

“So, let’s be patient everybody; we will make a thorough evaluation. We will ensure that everything will be aimed at achieving the national interest,” Sandiaga Uno said today, Oct. 18, in Jakarta.

Nevertheless, Sandi said that he had yet to meet the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan to discuss the reclamation project. Having been sworn in as a Jakarta deputy governor, Sandi also plans to meet President Joko Widodo to discuss issues currently faced by the capital city.

Sandi said that the central government ought to be transparent and act fairly to the public in the discussion on the reclamation project. He reasoned that several issues regarding the project are still left unanswered.

“I have a question that is still left unanswered, among others: How many jobs will be created there? And what kind of job will it create? A study is yet to be conducted,” he said.

Sandi also said that he has to make sure that the reclamation project would benefit the people, from infrastructure to job opportunities. “We are the leader of all, not a few.”

Meanwhile, Minister Luhut earlier said he had no reason not to resume the reclamation project after the Environment and Forestry Ministry declared that the developer had met the administrative requirements.

Luhut said that he will hold talks with Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno following their inauguration as Jakarta Governor and Deputy Governor.
