TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yunarto Wijaya, the executive director of pollster Charta Politika, said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has a high chance of being reelected.
“Jokowi has a high chance [of being reelected]. Given the competition in 2014, I think Jokowi will be tough to beat,” Yunarto told Tempo yesterday, Oct. 10.

He viewed that Jokowi’s rivals have failed to use the ethnicity, race, religion, and societal group issues to reduce Jokowi’s electability. Yunarto suggested them to use other strategies.
He claimed that if the public’s trust in Jokowi’s administration was above 60 percent, the incumbent candidate would likely to win the election.
Although three surveys show that Jokowi’s electability level is below 50 percent, Yunarto said that some respondents are still undecided.

He pointed out that there’s an increasing trend in the public’s trust level in Jokowi. Back in 2015, pollster Saiful Muljani Research Center (SMRC) showed that the public’s trust level stood at 49 percent. In the latest survey, the figure increased to 61 percent.
The increasing trend is followed by Jokowi’s increasing electability from 25.5 percent in 2015 to 38.9 percent. Meanwhile, Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party chairman Prabowo Subianto’s electability went down from 13.6 percent to 12 percent.
