TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) will celebrate its 72nd anniversary on October 5, in Cilegon, Banten. The ceremony will have the theme of Bersama Rakyat TNI Kuat or the TNI is strong with the support from the society. “The core strength of the TNI is with the people,” said General Gatot on October 3.

TNI Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo explains that the theme highlights the moment during Indonesia’s fight for independence where soldiers fought shoulder-to-shoulder with civilians.

The celebration will be held at the Port of Indah Kiat in Cilegon. Several events will enliven the anniversary celebration, starting with the flag ceremony, followed by the exhibition of various TNI primary defense systems (Alutsista), the show of Pencak Silat martial art done by TNI soldiers, and a joint exercise.

Gatot reiterated that Indonesia’s independence is due to the contribution of the people and that TNI is tasked to forever maintain and guard the security, unity, and welfare of the people.
