TEMPO.CO, Mataram - Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto rejected the notion resulted from a pollster Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey suggesting that the current issue on the rise of Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) was mobilized by Gerindra.
“I am not informed [about any mobilization], there is no such thing,” said Prabowo during a gubernatorial candidacy declaration in Mataram City on Sunday, October 1. “[We’re talking about] party members, instructions exist and there has never been any instruction from me.”
SMRC research center recently announced the result of its survey, saying that 86.8 percent of the total of 1,057 respondents do not believe that there is or will be a rise of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).
Only 12.6 percent of respondents believe that there is a PKI uprising happening and five percent of respondents believe that the PKI uprising is currently threatening Indonesia’s stability. It corroborates with 5.1 percent respondents that agree on the opinion suggesting that President Jokowi is affiliated to PKI. Meanwhile, 75.1 percent respondents denounced that notion.
SMRC took a closer look towards public opinions regarding the rise of PKI and found that it is widely believed by Prabowo sympathizers and Gerindra party supporters.
