134,000 Evacuated over Fears of Bali Volcano Mt. Agung Eruption

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reports that 134,229 people have been evacuated over fears of Bali volcano, Mount Agung, eruption. The evacuees are now sheltered in 484 locations spread across 9 districts in Bali.
BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that the number of evacuees will continue to rise as people living outside the safe distance have also evacuated their homes.

“They are actually living in safe places. However, due to the lack of understanding and knowledge of the limit of dangerous areas on the ground, they evacuated as well,” Sutopo said in a written statement received by Tempo on September 28.
Authorities raised Bali's Mount Agung status to alert or level IV on Friday, September 22. As such, the radius of disaster-prone areas has been extended.
As many as 134,229 evacuees are now sheltered in Badung Regency (5,879 people), Bangli Regency (6,158 people), Buleleng Regency (16,901 people), Denpasar City (11,036), Gianyar (12,064 people), Jembrana Regency (420 people), Karangasem Regency (49,084 people), Klungkung Regency (27,395 people) and Tabanan Regency (4,851 people).
