TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo expressed his agreement in relation to the new version of G30S PKI (The Betrayal of the Communists) film.

“We’ll see about that. What’s important is that the nation’s history must be corrected,” he said today, Sept. 22, in Klaten, Central Java. Tjahjo added that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi’s instruction regarding the film was clear.

“There should be no manipulation and it must not spark controversies since the [G30S PKI] film is for the nation,” Tjahjo explained.

In response to a question about which part of the film that should be revised, Tjahjo said, “those will be discussed by film experts. For instance, is it still necessary to display the violence? However, the essence of the film must not be removed,” he said.

Tjahjo reminded that the history of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI)'s movement on September 30 or G30S PKI was manipulated. According to him, former Education and Culture Minister Nugroho Susanto’s book was recalled since it allegedly manipulated the history. Nugroho took part in the scenario writing for the film.
