TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for a more cautious use of regional budget. The statement was made following a sting operation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) that saw five individuals arrested, including city councilors of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

“First, be prudent in financial management, both the APBD [regional budget], the APBN [state budget]; the money belongs to the people; be careful. Second, be wary of graft…” Jokowi said today on the sidelines of a visit to Pasar Baru Market in Banjarmasin.

The KPK yesterday apprehended five individuals that include Banjarmasin city councilors. Chairman Agus Rahadjo confirmed that a sting operation was launched in relation to alleged transactions over deliberations on a bylaw. The anti-graft agency seized some money in the operation.

Jokowi has expressed his appreciation for the arrests. He said that the KPK might continue to carry out law enforcement measures, including sting operations.
