TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The government through the Home Affairs Ministry will streamline the permit application process for property developers in a bid to develop regions across the country.

“If there are regional regulations that obstruct the permit application and private sector involvement, we will evaluate them,” Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said in Serpong, Tangerang, today, Sept. 14.

According to Tjahjo, the move to simplify the permit application process was a direct instruction from President Joko Widodo or Jokowi aimed at empowering the private sector. Since the decision to grant permits is in the hands of regional regulations, the minister added, they are required to be selective yet not hampering.

"I believe that local regulations would not hinder [developers], but some regulations need to be simplified, changed, removed, or revised," he explained.

Tjahjo hopes that the Real Estate Indonesia (REI) will be able to build affordable houses for the public. He said that every regional head must be committed to providing housings for the people.
