TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, called upon another reminder regarding the upcoming political year of 2018-2019. The president reminded Indonesian citizens to avoid disputes regarding differences in voting preferences.
“Don’t let the upcoming political event stop us from greeting each other. Just vote for who you think is best, either for the presidential or regent election,” said Jokowi who was handing out over five thousand land certificates to West Java citizens today on September 11.
The President also reminded his ministers to avoid issuing policies that could potentially spark conflicts and instead issue a pro-people policy throughout the political year.
Generally, conflicts and tension can potentially arise during an election. It is why President Jokowi has placed his hope in society to keep their calm and focus on their own voting preference without provoking other voters that have a different viewpoint.
“The political event only comes once every five years. Go ahead and vote, don’t provoke others, use your rationales to vote for [who you think is] the best leader. And don’t be easily provoked,” said President Jokowi.
