OIC Summit Discuss Plight of Rohingnya, Myanmar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heads of states at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, mentioned the Rohingya humanitarian crisis in Myanmar.


Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in his opening speech 10 at the OIC Summit on September said that the organization is concerned about Myanmar crisis and will open dialogue to discuss the issue at the United Nations forum.


Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the OIC chairman, said that the Rohingya crisis should be addressed jointly by Myanmar and Bangladesh governments. He added that international organizations should take measures to help the Rohingya Muslims.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian government will send humanitarian aid to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.


Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi earlier had met with Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Bangladesh officials.


In a meeting with the Bangladesh government, she said that she was sent by Indonesian President to discuss refugee issues.


She said that Bangladesh supports Indonesia to help resolve the refugee problem.


The Foreign Minister said that a good bilateral relation between Myanmar and Bangladesh is a must to manage the Rohingya refugees in border areas.
