TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat threatened to punish motorists who use the sidewalk by revoking their government subsidies such as the KJP and BPJS healthcare services.

KJP is the Jakarta smart-card used to purchase items related to education, while, BPJS is a national social health insurance. “I've once said it, [it is] to create a deterrent effect. Report their ID and list it in the system,” said Djarot on Friday, August 18.

However, he said that the government subsidies will not be immediately revoked. The punishment will only take effect after the person violated three times by the same person. Djarot said that he had already instructed the head of Jakarta’s civil service police unit or Satpol PP, Yani Wahyuni last night.

Until August 13, Jakarta’s Satpol PP has cracked down 4,799 sidewalk violators include 1,005 street vendors, 417 motorcyclists climbing on a sidewalk, 1,884 parked cars and motorcycles, and 1,493 cases of various violations related to the misuse of sidewalks.
