TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singer Marcello Tahitoe alias Ello has been named a suspect for drug abuse. He was arrested with two of his friends with the initials of DM and RGG at his home in South Jakarta, on Sunday, August 6.
The police seized two packages of marijuana weighing 5 grams. The three of them did not resist arrest before being taken by investigators for questioning. Ello and DM have been named suspects, whereas RGG has been released for not committing drug abuse.
During the search, Ello did not consume marijuana and voluntarily handed over the evidence to investigators.
South Jakarta Police chief Iwan Kurniawan said that the Drugs Investigation Unit had launched an investigation in the past 1.5 months. The police have conducted an assessment on Ello but he did not reveal the results.
The police would decide on whether to rehabilitate Ello based on the assessment. Iwan said that the arrest has nothing to do with previous arrests involving celebrities.
Ello has been charged under Narcotics Law article 111 and 127 on drug possession and abuse which carries a minimum 4-year prison sentence and a maximum of 12-year in prison.
