Insp. Gen. Idham Azis (Antara)

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police Chief Ins. Gen. Idham Azis announced his readiness to crack down on drug dealers. The police chief considered it as an extraordinary crime that has ruined numerous generations.

He reminded fellow policemen to not be hesitant in upholding the law. Idham said today, August 8, that he would not think twice to discharge police officers who are indecisive in conducting their job.

Idham admitted that he was not afraid of being accused of committing human rights violations following his statement. He said that police abide by specific rules and procedures in conducting their job.

He insists that drug dealers must be severely punished even though they have apologized or shown signs of regrets after their arrest.

“Regarding drug dealers asking for mercy is God’s concern. My concern is how I could get these drug dealers to face God,” said Idham Azis.

One drug smuggling suspect was shot dead in Anyer, Banten, on July 13, after he and four other Taiwanese suspects were caught smuggling one ton of crystal meth.
