TEMPO.CO, San Francisco - The latest version of Mozilla Firefox, Firefox 55, will be released on August 8th equipped with virtual reality support (VR). Firefox will join the ranks of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, who have also added this web-based VR functionality last year.

Web-based VR in Firefox will be available to all Windows users who have HTC Vive or Oculus Rift headsets. This is something that Mozilla has tried for a while, using a standard called WebVR that allows browsers to run virtual reality experiences.

This feature is already available in Firefox Nightly, a pre-release version of Mozilla's browser, and has very limited availability in Servo, browser engine made by individual developers and sponsored by Mozilla.

Even so, Firefox lags behind its bigger competitor, Chrome. Chrome, which added web-based VRs in February, is currently the most accessible browser for the VR platform. In Chrome, you can use VR content on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and definitely, Google Cardboard and Google Daydream.

Firefox 55 will also include a new tool still in beta testing called Firefox Screenshots, which automatically saves screenshots to the cloud and then copies them to your clipboard. Screenshots will expire in two weeks unless manually set to last longer.
